The PGA of America’s Professional Golf Management Program (PGA/PGM™)

The PGA/PGM™ is three-level golf specific educational program focusing on the People, the Game, and the Business of golf. Each level of the program contains classroom studies, seminars, and work experience activities, concluding with knowledge and/or skill simulation testing. UCO PGA/PGM students will be enrolled each semester in specific PGM courses that are designed to prepare students for the PGA’s seminars and testing by teaching the objectives of the PGA/PGM™ Program and to guide students in the completion of their work experience kits. Once your work experience kit is approved, you must successfully complete each testing component at a PGA/PGM™ checkpoint to be held on campus in the spring.  PGA PGM At-a-Glance

PGM Checkpoints

PGM Checkpoints are scheduled as indicated in the PGM Cohort Sequence. Each checkpoint consists of knowledge tests and/or skill simulations administered by The PGA of America. Students must pass each testing component before advancing to the next level. Please visit with the UCO PGM Director or Internship Coordinator regarding PGA/PGM™ checkpoints.

Cohort Requirement

The PGA of America requires each entering PGA/PGM class to be considered a separate cohort. Each student will be expected to progress through the program and meet all PGA/PGM™ milestones with their cohort. Only under exceptional circumstances will a student be allowed to deviate from this schedule and only with the director’s approval.  PGM Cohort Sequence

PGA Playing Ability Test (PAT)

The PGA considers the ability to play the game of golf with a high degree of proficiency as vital for membership. Passing the PAT is a requirement for graduation from the University of Central Oklahoma’s PGA/PGM program. A student should attempt the PAT before applying for admission to the UCO PGA/PGM Program to assess his/her playing ability. Students who attempt a PAT do not forfeit their amateur status as defined by the USGA. The PGA/PGM Program at UCO has a required player development program to assist students in improving their golfing skill and passing the PAT. Current PGA PAT guidelines and requirements can be found on the PGA’s web site www.pgalinks.com.
