The Donald E. Fleming Endowed Scholarship Fund to Benefit Finance Students in 2008

It is with deep appreciation we announce the establishment of The Donald E. Fleming Endowed Scholarship Fund.  The lead gift for endowing the scholarship fund was provided by the generosity of Julie and Scott Cumbie.  

Julie and Scott chose to honor Dr. Fleming because of his dedication to teaching and his knowledge of finance.  Scott and Julie believe they are beneficiaries of Dr. Fleming’s teaching, and wish to express their gratitude with this gift.  Scott is currently a Senior Vice President with Morgan Stanley, and Julie is an instructor for the UCO College of Business Administration Finance Department.

Julie’s colleagues Dr. Maryellen Epplin and Dr. Stephen Black, along with Dr. Cheryl Black, have joined Julie and Scott in making pledges to the scholarship fund in honor of Dr. Fleming.

Dr. Fleming retired from UCO in 1998, after 35 years of teaching finance, 23 years at UCO. For nine years he served as chairman of the university’s finance department.  When making his initial donation for scholarship support Dr. Fleming said, “This is my way of encouraging students to major in finance and to help them offset the cost of tuition as well.”  In response to Scott and Julie Cumbie’s lead gift and the gifts from Dr. Epplin and Drs. Black, to endow The Donald E. Fleming Scholarship Fund, Dr. Fleming has pledged $10,000 to the newly endowed scholarship fund.   

The pledges now total over $30,000 in endowed funds.  The interest from these gifts will provide much needed scholarship support for finance juniors who have demonstrated significant scholastic achievement, participated in campus activities and shown potential for success in the business world.  The scholarships will be awarded at the UCO College of Business Administration’s annual honors and awards program on April 25, 2008.
