Title: Spring Commencement and Summer Graduation Policy No: 7.2
Category: Graduation/Commencement Effective: Spring 2001

Policy Statement: Spring commencement will be the official ceremony for spring graduation candidates and prospective candidates for summer graduation.

Background: Since elimination of the summer commencement ceremony in 1998, summer candidates for degrees have increasingly requested to participate in the spring ceremony. Rather than wait until their officially designated ceremony in fall, many cited family and travel inconveniences that would prevent them from attending the fall ceremony in December.

Purpose:    1)   Designate the spring ceremony for summer degree candidates;

       2)   Include names of summer candidates in the printed commencement program.

Related Procedures: Students must meet the graduation deadlines as established by the Office of Enrollment Management.

Implementation Date:   Spring 2001

Co-ordinating Offices:   Enrollment Management  (Graduation Support Services) and Academic Affairs.

Academic Affairs Point-of-Contact: Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management/Registrar

Policy approved by the Vice President for Academic Affairs on September 21, 2000.
